The late former President Jerry John Rawlings was instrumental in Morgan Heritage's decision to visit Ghana, specifically, as the Grammy-winning Jamaican reggae band has revealed. On April 19, 2023, the band announced their arrival in Ghana ahead of the release of their album titled "The Homeland," which will feature collaborations with Ghanaian musicians such as Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.
This is not the group's first visit to Ghana, as they had been previously inspired by Jerry John Rawlings to visit the country, which he had described as a welcoming home for people from various continents. Gramps Morgan, speaking on behalf of the group in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Citi TV, recalled Rawlings' motivating speech during his visit to Jamaica, and his encouragement for them to come to Ghana, which he described as the gateway to Africa, alongside Kenya. The 21-track "The Homeland" album, set to be released on April 21, 2023, will also feature collaborations with other African artists such as Popcaan, Youssou N'Dour, Shaggy, Beenie Man, and Mádé Kuti.
